What is ICOMS? I’m glad you asked. Interfaith Community of Millbury Sutton is an ecumenical collaboration of the churches of Millbury and Sutton. It came into being in September 2023 when representatives of six churches met to brainstorm ways for our churches to jointly reach our communities and share each of our events with all of the other congregations. Each church is represented by their clergy and two lay representatives.
During our first year we began by recognizing the troubled times in which we live with a joint prayer for peace in our worship. We selected the Prayer of Saint Francis, to be said each Sunday in November (2023) by each of the churches.
We have held two joint worship services. The first was on Pentecost on May 19, 2024. The service was held at 2:00 pm at First Church in Millbury and conducted by clergy and readers from our member churches. We then had an opportunity to join together for refreshment and fellowship to get to know each other. This meaningful service was our first in person gathering.
Our second service was held September 22, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Waters Farm in Sutton where the service included worship, singing, and the blessing of animals.
